Optimizing TiO2 Picked as the Main Cost Reduction Strategy While Formulating Sustainable Coatings

One of the major objectives in developing novel coatings, especially sustainable coatings, is to control cost. In March, we invited our members to share their approach regarding cost control of sustainable coatings. The question we asked is: What is the main cost reduction strategy you pursue in formulation?
TiO2 accounts for approximately 50% of the raw material cost for a flat finish paint and almost 40% of the raw material cost for semi-gloss and high gloss paints. The cost of TiO2 has been constantly rising during the last few years and is currently approaching close to USD 2.00 per pound.

Our company is always looking to cut costs, including those found in the formation of mixes & coatings...a lot of good informatiion in this document and very easy to follow & understand...many good points brought up about different ways to minimize or cut your costs while still maintaining the use & purpose of your coating or mix...I have forwarded this on to others @ our company...RMO III

This is very good report that will alert the tio2 pigment producers not to increase price too sharply .But the real situation is that the upstream industry of tio2 pigment-mineral price is going up and up. The current tio2 pigment production cost increase roughly 50% compared with year 2011.
