The Intercide IBF products are based on the active ingredient 3 - Iodo – 2 – propynyl butyl carbamate (IPBC). This product is highly effective against a wide variety of fungal species. It is used widely in cosmetic preparations (hair care products, suntan creams, shaving creams, baby products) and as a paint/film fungicide and algicide in both solvent and water based coatings. IPBC has FDA approval for use in adhesives and sealants for non-direct food contact applications. IPBC is highly compatible with plasticised PVC. For indoor applications the recommended addition level of the active agent is 800-1200ppm and for outdoor uses the IPBC should be added to the formulation at levels up to 2000ppm. Intercide IBF-8-DINP consists of an 8% solution of IPBC in DINP. It gives excellent protection to plasticised PVC calendered film and sheeting and goods prepared from PVC plastisols. The Intercide IBF-8-DINP can be added at the mixing or compounding stage but depending upon the formulation details there may be some effect on the processing heat stability.
