It is designed for use as a co-solvent in low VOC lithographic ink systems. In vegetable oil ink systems it will reduce viscosity and tack beyond the point obtainable with oils alone. The low volatility and low molecular weight of SYLFAT® 9012 Solvent allows replacement of mineral oils for fast setting, low VOC lithographic inks. It possesses low volatility, low viscosity, low molecular weight, aliphatic ester functionality, high boiling, lowers VOC's when replacing ink oils, allows for formulation of high-solids inks, allows higher resin loadings at a workable viscosity, penetrates stock for fast setting, good solvency with a wide range of resins, as an additive can slows solvent release in liquid inks. It is used in high-solids sheet fed or heatset ink systems, tack reducer in no-heat web-offset soybean oil news-ink systems. Butyl ester of selected tall oil fatty acids.
