The defoamer is very effective during the production and application of aqueous coatings. It does not influence color acceptance and gloss. Due to its high activity, BYK®-018 has to be incorporated under high shear forces to avoid cratering. BYK®-018 is especially suitable for pigmented emulsion systems based on styrene/acrylate, acrylate or acrylate/polyurethane combinations with a low PVC. In industrial emulsion paints that are applied by dipping, flow coating or airless spraying, BYK®-018 is very effecient against microfoam. It is used in exterior wall paints, gloss and semi-gloss paints, plastic coatings, wood/parquet varnishes and pigment concentrates. Foam destroying polysiloxanes and hydrophobic solids in polyglycol.
