In the formulation of decorative paints with excellent through-drying and good yellowing resistance. Also for flow coatings, DIY paints and air-drying coatings. Alkydal F 681 TB is a low-viscosity long-oil alkyd resin which is ideal for use in the formulation of DIY and decorative paints with excellent through-drying, a dust-free drying time of approx. 3.5 hours and a tackfree drying time of approx. 6 hours. Because of the relatively high acid value of Alkydal F 681 TB, the following driers should be used: 0.04 % cobalt 6 1.20 % zirconium 18 0.20 % calcium 4 The metal content is always calculated on the solvent-free resin. The use of these driers ensures good drying stability, even after prolonged storage. The addition of an anti-skinning agent is recommended. Aliphatic hydrocarbons are used to thin Alkydal F 681 TB. Higher boiling fractions are particularly suitable for adjusting the brushing viscosity. Standard pigments can be used to colour the formulations. The compatibility with alkaline pigments must always be tested in each individual case. Decorative paints Because of its low viscosity, fast drying and excellent through-drying, Alkydal F 681 TB is ideal for use in the formulation of decorative paints. The use of drying vegetable fatty acids with low linoleic acid content makes coatings based on Alkydal F 681 TB highly resistant to yellowing in the dark. Coatings based on Alkydal F 681 TB have good brushing properties and yield high-bodied films with brilliant gloss. Because of the fast through-drying, good thumb-pressure resistance is obtained in a coating of 100 to 120 g/m2 after approx. 20 hours' drying. The films have excellent flexibility. If the coatings are properly formulated, no film brittleness is observed after two years' weathering. Alkydal F 681 TB is therefore suitable for use as the sole binder in window frame coatings. DIY paints As coatings based on Alkydal F 681 TB have good application properties, fast initial drying and very good through-drying, they are ideal for use in the formulation of DIY paints. The good pigment acceptance of Alkydal F 681 TB allows the formulation of the complex shades which are so important in this sector. Air-drying coatings With its low viscosity, Alkydal F 681 TB is suitable for the formulation of air-drying coatings with high solids content and correspondingly high body. The fast drying of the binder is also of advantage in this application. Low-viscosity, long-oil alkyd resin based on drying vegetable fatty acids. Provides very good through drying, good yellowing resistance, fast drying, good brushing properties and good pigment acceptance. Produces high bodied- films with brilliant gloss.
