Borchi Gel D8 Aluminium soap of 2-ethylhexanoic acid Bayer-Börchers Rheology Modifier/ Thickener >> Metal organic gellant >> Aluminate Alkyd Resins Coatings >> Solventborne Coatings >> Solvent-Free/ High-Solids Coatings >> Waterborne Borchi® Gel D 8 2 Rheological additive Description Aluminium soap of 2-ethylhexanoic acid, solvent-free. Properties Borchi® Gel D 8 offers the following advantages: - activates primary driers such as cobalt and manganese; - promotes and stabilises drying; - increases film hardness (through-drying); - improves adhesion to different substrates; - improves water resistance and promotes corrosion resistance. Applications Borchi® Gel D 8 is suited for use as a thickener for solvent-based and solvent-free binders and, under certain circumstances, for aqueous binder systems. Mixing and addition rate The product is best incorporated a) with the material to be milled or b) by means of preswelling in solvents at dispersion temperatures of approx. 40 - 60 °C or in oils at approx. 80 - 100 °C c) in aqueous binder systems, particularly for primers, the product has to be incorporated at the dispersion stage (bead mill) In the case of water-based paints and primers, it is advisable to use non-ionic wetting agents such as Borchi® Gen DFN. This improves both stability and viscosity. With solvent-based and high solids paints, wetting and viscosity should be adjusted using Borchi® Gen ND. Mixing and addition rate water - based paints and primers: 0.05 - 0.1% Borchi® Gel D 8 0.5 - 0.7% Borchi® Gen DFN solvent - based and high solids paints: 0.1 - 1.0% Borchi® Gel D 8 0.5% Borchi® Gen ND natural and synthetic oils, including those for the printing ink industry, and greases and oils for the lubricants industry: 0.1 - 0.5 % Borchi® Gel D 8 Rheological additive, solvent-free.
