This thickener is prepared as a liquid, solvent free emulsion. It is specially designed as a classical low-shear thickener in emulsion paints. It simplifies their application and improves their rheological profile. Properties In most emulsion paints and waterborne binders Borchi® Gel VP 96112 - LL40 has associative thickening effects. This effect is highly dependent on the kind of binder. The efficiency of Borchi® Gel VP 96112 - LL40 might be reduced by polar, water soluble substances, e.g. alcohols and glycols. At the recommended amounts Borchi® Gel VP 96112 - LL40 does not reduce the water resistance of the applied film. A combination of Borchi® Gel VP 96112 - LL40 with other thickening agents is possible to achieve special effects. It simplifies the application and improves storage stability of filled coat systems. Field of Application Borchi® Gel VP 96112 - LL40 can be used in systems on basis of dispersions. The rheological profile becomes pseudoplastic. The efficiency depends on the structure of the used binders and the used amount of Borchi® Gel VP 96112 - LL40 . Manufacturing and Addition Rate Borchi® Gel VP 96112 - LL40 can be incorporated directly into the aqueous formulation. But it is also possible to make a pre-dilution of Borchi® Gel VP 96112 - LL40 in water (1:9). This dilution can be incorporated at any time of the manufacturing process. It is even possible to use it as a rheological adjuster after production. The recommended amount depends on the formulation and the desirable thickening effect. Mostly 0.1-2.0% of the supplied form relative to the total formulation is sufficient. The precise addition rate should be determined in pre-trials.
