To achieve homogeneous dispersion throughout the paint system, optimum efficacy and stable viscosity, it is advisable to produce an evenly mixed gelling agent stock paste before application. Using Borchi® Gen TS, low-concentration and high-concentration fine pastes with a stable viscosity and which are fully mechanically and chemically dispersed can be produced extremely quickly in a high-speed mixer. Properties Borchi® Gen TS is excellently suited to manufacture of stock pastes from powdery inorganic gelling agents in organic solvents, e.g. white spirit, xylene, butyl glycol. The particular advantages in terms of performance of using this wetting and dispersing agent are as follows: - very short dispersion and maturing time of highly concentrated pastes - homogeneous, easily usable, pumpable and scoopable gels - stable, non-skinning, corrosion-inhibiting pastes, even if stored for long periods in opened containers - can also be fully subsequently incorporated using high-speed mixer - excellent binder compatibility and no effect on drying properties of binders which dry physically or by oxidation. Borchi® Gen TS is particularly suited to manufacture of polyurethane- and epoxybased paints. Since Borchi® Gen TS has potent wetting properties, it acts as both a wetting agent and an anti-settling agent in such systems. lt is specifically suited to dilution of high solids paints in these areas. Borchi® Gen TS can also be used to bring about a marked reduction in the intrinsic viscosity of the resin. This means that the resulting paint has a higher pigment filler content and improved application properties. The marked gelling with highly dispersed silicas and montmorillonites is still observed with Borchi® Gen TS even in aqueous systems. Applications Borchi® Gen TS can be used in the following binders: alkyd resins styrenated alkyd resins epoxy resin esters alkyd / nitrocellulose alkyd / urea / melamine acid-curing paints epoxy resins polyurethane resins unsaturated polyester resins silicone resins chlorinated and cyclised rubber acrylic resins vinyl resins PVC organosols / plastisols aqueous binders dispersions Mixing and addition rate This swelling agent can be used to produce pastes with low to high concentrations depending on the purpose for which they are required. By varying the ratio of gelling agents to dispersing agent, the consistency of the paste can be altered from thin and pumpable to solid. The inorganic swelling agent is added to the given solvent (e.g. white spirit, xylene or styrene) by stirring until evenly dispersed. The Borchi® Gen TS dispersing agent is then added. All concentrations are usable after maturing for 24 hours. Suggested paste formulation are as follows: a) pumpable paste 90.0 pbw solvent 7.5 pbw inorganic swelling agent 2.5 pbw Borchi® GenTS 100.0 pbw paste b)standard paste 85.0 pbw solvent 10.0 pbw inorganic swelling agent 5.0 pbw Borchi® Gen TS 100.0 pbw paste c)highly concentrated paste 70.0 pbw solvent 20.0 pbw inorganic swelling agent 10.0 pbw Borchi® GenTS 100.0 pbw paste The gloss, drying and hardness of the paints are unaffected by Borchi® Gen TS at the recommended quantities.
