Borchi Nox 55 Solution of a synthetic organic product Bayer-Börchers Antiskinning agent Alkyd Resins Epoxy Resins Polyester Coatings >> Solventborne Coatings >> Solvent-Free/ High-Solids White spirit 50% Borchi® Nox 55 13 Anti-skinning agent Description Borchi® Nox 55 is the 50% solution of a synthetic organic product in white spirit and is free from phenolic resins. Borchi® Nox 55 is virtually colourless, has a mild odour and is characterised by outstanding efficacy in clear lacquers and pigmented paints based on drying oils, alkyd resins, epoxy esters and other refined drying oils. Borchi® Nox 55 is used in air- and stove-drying paint systems. Properties As a result of its excellent efficiency, Borchi® Nox 55 enhances the gloss and flow properties of air- and stove-drying systems. Wrinkle formation with wrinklefinish paints containing oil is not adversely affected. Borchi® Nox 55 has very little effect on initial drying but promotes through-drying of the paint film. In stoving paints Borchi® Nox 55 enhances the gloss and flow properties of the paint film by prolonging the open time. With Borchi® Nox 55, no discoloration occurs under the effect of light and heat. Applications Borchi® Nox 55 is used in clear lacquers and pigmented paints based on drying oils, alkyd resins, epoxy esters, etc. Borchi® Nox 55 is used in both air- and stove-drying systems. Mixing and addition rate Borchi® Nox 55 is easy to use and is simply stirred gently into the coating. In view of the tendency of Borchi® Nox 55 towards evaporation, we recommend that it is incorporated just before the finished paint is poured into the can. Simultaneous addition with driers is also to be avoided. Storage of paints modified with Borchi® Nox 55 in open containers results in evaporation losses which counteract the anti-skinning action. Addition rates of Borchi® Nox 55 are dependent on the particular paint system and its tendency towards skinning. The optimum addition rate should be determined beforehand in trials. For guidance, the addition rates below (in each case relative to the finished paint) were determined in Applications Development trials and from practical experience. lt should be borne in mind that pigmented paints require on average 30% higher addition rates of Borchi® Nox 55 than clear coating systems. We recommend the following addition rates: lean oils 0.2 - 0.3% medium-oil alkyd resin paints 0.3 - 0.4% long-oil clear lacquers and long-oil, fast drying alkyd resin paints 0.4 - 0.6% Anti-skinning agent, free from phenolic resins.
