GLASCOL TA is an aqueous solution of an acrylamide polymer. GLASCOL TA is an aqueous solution of an acrylamide polymer. The product is designed to significantly increasing the printing process efficiency of water-based flexographic inks. The special polymer back- bone of GLASCOL TA provides a strong self-cohesion property thus resulting in very high transfer rates of the ink from the Anilox cylinder to the plate cylinder of the printing machine and from there to the substrate. Although use of GLASCOL TA typically allows running of the printing machine at higher speed care must be taken to avoid flying. For the same reason the addition level of GLASCOL TA should be limited to max. 3% of the total ink formulation. In letterpress printing GLASCOL TA improves the open time on the press, without affecting the drying rate on paper, thus giving faster resolubility and cleaner printing. GLASCOL TA must only be added to the let-down phase of the ink. Under no circumstances should this additive be put in the grinding base since this will render it ineffective and considerably reduce the colour development of the base. Ciba offers a comprehensive product range of water-based specialty resins for usage as binders in inks and coatings under the trademark GLASCOL. Since any component present in a formulation can have significant impact on the overall coating properties, compatibility and dosage level should always be checked in the actual formulation.
