Rheovis PU10 Urethane based polymers Ciba Rheology Modifier/ Thickener >> Associative >> Urethane (HEUR) Inks >> Water-based Coatings >> Waterborne Wood & Furniture Coatings water/butyldiglycol RHEOVIS PU10 are derivatives of a family of highly effective rheological control additives for water-born inks and water-borne coatings. RHEOVIS PU10 are formulations of urethane based polymers in water/butyldiglycol and water respectively. RHEOVIS PU10 are excellent rheological control additives offering an outstanding balance of low viscosity at low shear rates and high viscosity at high shear rates. This property is derived from the molecular bulk of the urethane polymer as well as its association with other components of the formulation, especially resins, and results in excellent flow, levelling and brush drag properties, even in the absence of coalescing solvents. The main application for RHEOVIS PU10 are high-build coatings, e.g. high quality wood coatings. The choice between the two products is dictated by the detailed rheological requirements of the targeted application. RHEOVIS PU10 are effective over the pH range 4-10 thus allowing optimal formulation flexibility. Rheology control additives with an urethane based polymer back-bone, like RHEOVIS PU10 may potentially allow formulation of paints with close to ideal rheology, i.e. hardly any change of dynamic viscosity over a wide shear rate interval. This is of special advantage when the formulator wants to offer maximum handling flexibility to the applicators. However, the achievable rheology behaviour in a given system also depends on the type and concentration of other paint components, namely surfactants and coalescence solvents.
