Nuodex Co 254 Colbalt based Condea Servo Drier / Siccative Polyester Coatings >> Solventborne Coatings >> Waterborne NUODEX Driers and Catalysts NUODEX Co 254 Loss-of-dry Inhibitor GENERAL INFORMATION NUODEX Co 254 is a Cobalt-based loss-of-dry inhibitor used in both solvent-based and aqueous air drying paints. The product stabilises the drying properties during storage. APPLICATION AND PROPERTIES Paints based on carbon blacks. Organic pigments and similar pigments, having large surface areas may loose the initial drying properties because of physical and chemical adsorption reactions between the drier and the pigment surface. Using NUODEX Co. 254 avoids loss-of-dry in these paints. In waterborne paints. NUODEX Co 254 is used preferably in conjunction with NUODEX WEB driers. NUODEX Co 254 is also used in unsaturated polyester systems based on a peroxide/Cobalt catalyst system. The product avoids inhibition of the Cobalt accelerator upon storage. For this purpose, NOUDEX Co 254 is used in combination with accelerator SERCAT Co 10%. Feature -> Consequence Strongly adsorps on reactive pigments ->: prevents adsorption of cobalt drier -> reduces loss-of-dry upon paint storage -> improves paint quality and consistency High cobalt level -> extremely effective DOSAGE NUODEX Co 254 is usually added to the pigment paste before the grinding process. However, since the product is supplied as a paste with a very fine particle size, it may also be added during the let-down stage of paint manufacture. In waterborne paints it is recommended to add NUODEX Co 254 before the grinding process only. The following dosage calculated on total resins solids are recommended: • for air drying paints: 0.3 – 0.7% • for air drying aqueous paints: 0.3 – 1.5% The exact concentration should be determined experimentally. HANDLING AND SAFETY Cobalt-based loss-of-dry inhibitor used in both solvent-based and aqueous air drying paints. Paints based on carbon blacks. Organic pigments and similar pigments, having large surface areas may loose the initial drying properties because of physical and chemical adsorption reactions between the drier and the pigment surface. In waterborne paints, can be used in unsaturated polyester systems based on a peroxide/Cobalt catalyst system. Avoids inhibition of the Cobalt accelerator upon storage. Strongly adsorps on reactive pigments, prevents adsorption of cobalt drier, reduces loss-of-dry upon paint storage, improves paint quality and consistency. High cobalt level, extremely effective usually. Should be added to the pigment paste before the grinding process. Supplied as a paste with a very fine particle size, may also be added during the let-down stage of paint manufacture, except in waterborne paints. Recommended usage level: calculated on total resins solids: for air drying paints: 0.3 – 0.7%, for air drying aqueous paints: 0.3 – 1.5%.
