Ser-Ad FX 521 Vinyloxazoline diester of an unsaturated fatty acid Condea Servo Adhesion promoter / Bonding agent Drier / Siccative Wetting agent/ Wet edge enhancer Alkyd Resins Vinyl Coatings >> Solventborne Coatings >> Waterborne Special Monomers SER-AD FX 521 GENERAL INFORMATION SER-AD FX 521 is a multifunctional monomer used as a co-monomer for polymerisation purposes. Benefits: • Improved pigment wetting • Improved adhesion • Wide compatibility with alkyd vehicles • Higher pigment lading • Air-drying reactivity APPLICATION AND PROPERTIES SER-AD FX 521 is used as a co-monomer for polymerisation purpose, e.g. for acrylic resins. SER-AD FX 521 contains conjugated unsaturated groups, which are reactive for oxidative polymerisation reactions. Thus, introducing SER-AD FX 521 in the polymeric chain results in air-drying properties for the polymer. Also the compatibility with oil-based, such as alkyd resins will be increased. Paints based on alkyd binders. Chemically or physically modified with SER-AD FX 521, show improved properties with respect to adhesion onto metals or previously painted surfaces. Wettability, flow, levelling, package stability and durability are also improved. Dispersion paints are modified with SER-AD FX 521 to improve adhesion to chalky surfaces or metal brushability, whereby flow and levelling properties are also positively influenced. SER-AD FX 521 improves pigment wetting in both aqueous as well as solvent-based systems. Alkyd resins can be modified chemically by re-reaction with the unsaturated oil and the vinyl groups; SER-AD FX 521 can be copolymerized with vinyl monomers. DOSAGE SER-AD FX 521 may be used up to approx. 20% calculated on vehicle-solids. The optimal dosage has to be determined experimentally and may differ strongly depending on the requirements.
