APPLICATION AND PROPERTIES SER-AD FN 265 is a unique nonionic wetting agent and emulsifier designed to replace the traditionally used alkyl phenol ethoxylates. Alkyl phenol ethoxylates (APEs) are widely used in the paint industry as pigment wetting agents, emulsifiers and stabilisers. Questions have been raised regarding the aquatic toxicity of APEs. The environmental classification of APEs is currently in review. Potentially this could lead to adverse classification and labelling of APEs as well as APEs containing products. SER-AD FN 265 can be used as a new replacement for the most widely used APE in paints, namely nonyl phenol ethoxylate NP-10E. SER-AD FN 265 is an excellent candidate to sub-stitute NP-10E in paints, pigment dispersions and most emulsions and dispersions. Based on our findings SER-AD FN 265 shows similar pigment wetting and stabilising properties as being obtained with NP-10E. SER-AD FN 265 only contains water as the volatile component and therefore may be classified as a NO-VOC compound.
