CYCAT 600 catalyst is soluble in aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons, esters, ketones, alcohols, glycol ethers and water. It may be used as a replacement for less soluble acid catalysts, such as toluene sulfonic acid, in low alcohol-containing finishes. CYCAT 600 catalyst may be used in alkyd enamels with low levels of alcohols that exhibit excellent package stability. When fully alkylated crosslinking agents such as CYMEL 303 resin are used, an acid catalyst is necessary to obtain maximum film properties with most resin systems. Some acid catalysts formerly used in such systems were not soluble in hydrocarbon solvents, making it necessary to incorporate high levels of alcohols or other oxygenated solvents to assure catalyst solubility.
