There are no unreacted iso-cyanate groups. CYDROTHANE dispersions are pre-pared without the use of organic solvents. The volatile organic content (VOC) ranges from 32-36 grams/liter and is a result of the neutralization amine. The back-bone resins in CYDROTHANE HP 1035, HP 5035, and HP 6000 are polyesters. The CYDROTHANE HP 4033 backbone resin is a polyether. The physical properties measured on free films show very high tensile strength combined with high elongation to break. This combi-nation imparts excellent toughness to coatings pre-pared from these dispersions. CYDROTHANE polyurethane dispersions can be blended with other waterborne resins to improve some properties, such as abrasion resistance, increased toughness, flexibility, hardness and gloss. When cross-linked, these dispersions also provide improved solvent and chemical resistance. CYDROTHANE dis-persions form continuous films at ambient tempera-tures. The films develop hardness and solvent resis-tance under ambient cure, but improvements in both properties can be obtained with heating. The use of coalescing solvents improves the water resistance of the harder dispersions, HP 5035 and HP 6000. The softer dispersions, HP 1035 and HP 4033 exhibit excellent toughness and adhesion to flexible sub-strates. They have found utility as binders in water-borne inks and in bonding and laminating applications. Dispersions specifically designed for adhesive applica-tions are under development. Please contact Cytec for more information. Solvents and surfactants free, low viscosity, fully reacted, high molecular weight polyurethane containing polyether backbone dispersed in water.
