Cymel 1130 Methylated/butylated melamine-formaldehyde resin Cytec Amino Resins >> Urea based (incl. UF) Coatings >> Electrodeposition Coatings >> Solvent-Free/ High-Solids Coatings >> Waterborne Coil Coating Soluble in most common solvents Slightly soluble in water CYMEL 1130 resin is a highly alkylated methoxymethyl butoxymethyl melamine-formaldehyde resin. CYMEL 1130 resin is a versatile crosslinking agent for a wide range of polymeric materials, both water- borne and organo-soluble, containing carboxyl, hydroxyl or amide groups such as epoxy resins, alkyd and polyester resins, acrylic and vinyl polymers and cellulosics. Good Salt-Spray Resistance Water-lnsoluble High Solids Low Free Formaldehyde Electrocoating Finishes Coil-Coating Finishes High Solids Coatings Metal Deco Finishes IN WATER-BORNE COATINGS In electrocoating and water-based paints, CYMEL 1130 resin provides excellent paint stability, and should prefer-ably be added to the paint before dilution with water. CYMEL 1130 resin can be used as a direct replacement for CYMEL 1116 or CYMEL 1156 resins in electrocoating systems. It has the advantage over CYMEL 1156, showing faster cure response in catalyzed electro-coating paints using CYCAT 500 catalyst. Suggested formulations cited in the data sheets for CYMEL 303, CYMEL 1116 and CYMEL 1156 crosslinking agents may be used for CYMEL 1130 resin. IN ORGANO-SOLUBLE COATINGS CYMEL 1130 resin is recommended for high solids coatings. Because of its monomeric nature it provides fast reduction with most of the organic solvents com-monly used in high solids systems. CYMEL 1130 resin provides good surface wetting of metal substrates. It also exhibits less solvent popping during cure, making it possible to apply coatings at greater film thickness with-out blistering. In coatings which form the contact sur-faces for food or beverages, CYMEL 1130 resin will provide lower levels of extractables. The weight-retention on cure of CYMEL 1130 resin in high solids systems is comparable to that of a fully methylated resin such as CYMEL 303 resin and higher than is provided with partially methylated resins or fully butylated resins. High solids, low free formaldehyde, highly alkylated methoxymethyl butoxymethyl melamine-formaldehyde resin. Used as a versatile crosslinking agent for a wide range of water-borne and high solids polymeric materials containing carboxyl, hydroxyl or amide groups such as epoxy resins, alkyd and polyester resins, acrylic and vinyl polymers and cellulosics in electrocoating finishes, coil-coating finishes, high solids coatings and metal deco finishes. Provides good salt-spray resistance, very good paint stability, fast cure response and good surface wetting of metal substrates. Offers low solvent popping during cure and low levels of extractables.
