Cymel 1179 Methylol glycoluril resin Cytec Amino Resins Coatings >> Waterborne Water Soluble in water Insoluble in xylene GLYCOLURIL RESINS Glycoluril resins are similar to their melamine resins counterparts in that they, too, are based on a ring structure, glycoluril. And, similar to benzoguanamine resins, they are less functional than melamine resins but are UV resistant and can be used in exterior coatings. Their advantages are film toughness and flexibility, ability to adhere to metals, and low formaldehyde release on curing. There are two categories in the product line, unalkylated methylol glycoluril resins, and those which are highly alkylated. CYMEL 1179 resin, unalkylated, was designed for water-based coatings and have low temperature cure performance properties. The highly alkylated resins, Higher solids version of CYMEL 1172 resin. High solids, unalkylated glycoluril resin. Used for water-based coatings. Offers UV resistance, film toughness and flexibility, ability to adhere to metals, and low formaldehyde release on curing. Suits for exterior coatings. Gives low temperature cure performance properties.
