Cymel 350 Methylated melamine-formaldehyde resin Cytec Crosslinking / Coupling / Curing Agents >> Amine >> Melamine-formaldehyde Acrylic/Acrylate Resins Alkyd Resins Cellulosic Resins Epoxy Resins Polyester Vinyl Coatings >> Solvent-Free/ High-Solids Coatings >> Waterborne Coil Coating Soluble in alcohols, ketones, esters, glycol ethers and chlorinated solvents Insoluble in aliphatic solvents Slightly soluble in aromatic hydrocarbon solvents CYMEL 350 resin is a highly methylated, monomeric melamine formaldehyde resin recommended for use in water-borne and organo-soluble systems. CYMEL 350 resin is an efficient crosslinking agent for polymers containing hydroxyl, carboxyl or amide functional groups. CYMEL 350 resin is compatible with most short oil alkyd resins, polyester resins, acrylic and vinyl resins, low molecular weight epoxy resins and cellulosics. In Water-Borne Systems CYMEL 350 resin is recommended as a crosslinking agent for emulsion polymers. Its excellent water solubili-ty makes it easy to incorporate into emulsion systems. Excellent stability is achieved since CYMEL 350 resin is prone to remain in the water phase and not migrate to the polymer phase. CYMEL 350 resin will provide excel-lent flexibility compared to polymeric type, water soluble crosslinking agents and imparts improved resistance properties. In Organo-Soluble Systems CYMEL 350 resin is recommended as a crosslinking agent for acrylic and polyester coil coating and high solids systems. It imparts excellent flexibility and fabrica-tion potential. CYMEL 350 resin has a slightly slower cure response than other monomeric methylated amino resins. This provides excellent flow and leveling charac-teristics and less solvent popping on cure. CYMEL 350 resin will provide equal chemical and solvent resistance and better gloss and stain resistance compared to con-ventional butylated melamine resins. CYMEL 350 resin responds best to strong acid catalysis. CYCAT ® 3 4040 or CYCAT 600 catalyst are recommended. Generally, 0.5 to 1% catalyst solution based on total binder solids is sufficient to provide good cure on normal baking schedules of 20 minutes at 150-175°C or on coil schedules for a peak metal temperature (PMT) of 215°C. Systems with catalyzed CYMEL 350 resin may be stabi-lized with amines or combinations of amines and primary alcohols. CYMEL 350 resin shows little or no sensitivity to ovens fouled by amine fumes. Highly methylated, monomeric melamine-formaldehyde resin. Used as an efficient crosslinking agent for polymers containing hydroxyl, carboxyl or amide functional groups for water-borne systems, acrylic and polyester coil coating and high solids systems. Gives compatibility with most short oil alkyd resins, polyester resins, acrylic and vinyl resins, low molecular weight epoxy resins and cellulosics. Offers very good stability and flexibility, improved resistance properties, very good flow and leveling characteristics and low solvent popping on cure. Provides chemical and solvent resistance and good gloss and stain resistance.
