Cymel UI-27-EI Isobutylated urea formaldehyde Cytec Crosslinking / Coupling / Curing Agents >> Amine Acrylic/Acrylate Resins Alkyd Resins Cellulosic Resins Polyester Vinyl Coatings >> Solventborne Wood & Furniture Coatings Ethanol/ isobuthanol Viscous liquid 60% in ethanol/isobutanol APPLICATION PROPERTIES In solvent borne systems CYMEL Ul-27-El resin is an isobutylated urea-formaldehyde crosslinking agent with a medium degree of alkylation, a medium methylol content and low imino functionality. CYMEL Ul-27-El resin is a very effective crosslinking agent for backbone polymers containing hydroxyl, amide and, to some extent, carboxyl functional groups such as alkyd/polyester or acrylic resins. CYMEL Ul-27-El resin is designed for use in fast curing wood coating systems, providing a very good compatibility with physical drying polymers like nitrocellulose and cellulose acetate butyrate. It imparts a very good stability and chemical resistance. In water borne systems CYMEL Ul-27-El resin is insoluble in water and, because of its polymeric and hydrophobic nature, is not recommended in water borne systems. Catalysis In two-pack acid curing systems, strong acids like paratoluene sulphonic acid are recommended as the best catalysts. In one-pack acid curing finishes, weak acids with a pKa value higher than 1.9 are strongly recommended. Stability Formulated systems containing CYMEL Ul-27-El resin have to be stabilised with primary alcohols, amines or with a combination of these. Acid curing systems are usually stabilised only by addition of adequate amounts of primary alcohols. SOLUBILITY Alcohols Complete Ketones Complete Esters Complete Aromatic hydrocarbons Complete Aliphatic hydrocarbons Partial Water Not dilutable COMPATIBILITY Alkyd resins Very good Polyester resins Very good Acrylic resins Good Nitrocellulose Very good Cellulose acetate butyrate Very good Polyvinyl butyral Very good FDA STATUS CYMEL Ul-27-El resin has FDA acceptance for food-contact use as directed in the following section of the Code of Federal Regulations: 21 CFR 175.300 (Resin and polymeric coatings) Isobutylated urea-formaldehyde crosslinking agent with a medium degree of alkylation, a medium methylol content and low imino functionality. In solvent borne systems, very effective crosslinking agent for backbone polymers containing hydroxyl, carboxyl or amide functional groups such as alkyd/polyester or acrylic resins. Designed for use in fast curing wood coating systems, providing a very good compatibility with physical drying polymers like nitrocellulose and cellulose acetate butyrate. Imparts a very good stability and chemical resistance. Insoluble in water and, due to its hydrophobic nature it has to be dissolved initially in the organic phase of the water reducible backbone polymer. Not particularly recommended for use in water borne systems. In two-pack acid curing systems, strong acids like paratoluene sulphonic acid are recommended as the best catalysts. In one-pack acid curing finishes, weak acids with a pKa value higher than 1.9 are strongly recommended. Formulated systems containing it have to be stabilised with primary alcohols, amines or with a combination of these. Acid curing systems are usually stabilised only by addition of adequate amounts of primary alcohols. Complete solubility in ketones, esters, alcohols, aromatic hydrocarbons. Not dilutable in water. Partial solubility in aliphatic hydrocarbons. Very good compatibility with alkyd resins, polyester resins, acrylic resins, nitrocellulose, cellulose acetate butyrate, polyvinyl butyral.
