Neutralization in situ with 28% ammonium hydroxide, or with a water-soluble amine, increases the water solubility of the anhydride. In this form, the products will exhibit wetting and dispersing properties similar to their potassium salts. However, the amine neutralized salts may show superior anti-rust qualities. If the amine used is relatively volatile, it will evaporate during drying, permitting the surfactant to revert to the free-acid form. Because these free acids have less water affinity, the coatings will exhibit lower water sensitivity. This mechanism of reversion to the free-acid form also prevents inhibition of crosslinking, and in some cases, acceleration of cure has also been noted. DEXTROL OC-70 is a special wetting and dispersing agent which improves color acceptance and gloss when added to alkyd paint and other solvent-based coatings. When added directly to colorant systems, DEXTROL OC-70 will enhance color development. Acid anhydride surfactant. Used as a dispersing and wetting agent for emulsion and water-reducible applications, in alkyd paint and other solvent-based coatings. Improves color acceptance and gloss. Enhances color development.
