Diisobutyl Carbinol 2,6-Dimethyl-4-heptanol 108-82-7 Dow Chemical Solvent >> Alcohol Alkyd Resins Vinyl Inks INKS Miscible in organic solvent Slightly soluble in water Diisobutyl Carbinol is a transparent, colorless liquid with a sweet odor. It possesses secondary alcohol with steric hinderance, very slightly soluble in water, miscible with most orgnic solvents, high boiling-point, slow-evaporating solvent, low surface tension, non-HAP (Hazardous air pollutant) solvent. It is used as extraction solvent for acetic acid and ethanol from aqueous solution, ethyl acetate from methyl ethyl ketone and neptunium, niobium, protactinium, and zirconium-88, flotation agent, formation of ester gums for varnish, solvent for hydrogen peroxide manufacture, lacquers, shellac, printing inks, vinyl-chloride-acetate resins, urea-melamine resins and alkyd resins, refining solvent for petroleum products, rubber additive, plasticizer, and surface active agent, palladium-catalyzed oxidation to MIBK, alkylation by salicylic acid esters, chemical intermediate for dyestuffs, perfume manufacture, pesticides, pharmaceuticals, lubricants and oil additives. 2,6-Dimethyl-4-heptanol. Used as a solvent for printing inks and lacquers. Offers low surface tension. Possesses slow-evaporating and non-HAP (Hazardous air pollutant) solvent.
