DBE is a mixture of the refined dimethyl esters of adipic, glutaric and succinic acids which are all naturally occurring materials. Excellent solvency High boiling (low vapor pressure) Slow evaporation High flashpoint Low miscibility with water High miscibility with most organic solvents Readily Biodegradable Coatings Coatings include coil coating, can coating, industrial coatings, decorative or architectural coatings, and inks. DBE has a combination of high solvency and slow evaporation leading it to perform well as a "tails solvent" in coating formulations. As a tails solvent it is the last solvent to leave the system, providing desirable final coatings properties and leaving a high-gloss finish. DuPont Dibasic Ester (DBE) is an environmentally friendly high-boiling, oxygenated solvent that provides a wide range of flexibility in coatings formulations. Its non-hazardous classification, low toxicity, miscibility with most organic solvents and good solvency for a wide range of resins makes it ideal for coatings applications. DBE has been used successfully in coatings applications with alkyd, acrylic, polyester, vinyl copolymer and other resins. DBE offers good flow and levelling characteristics to coatings compositions. In coil coatings applications DBE has been demonstrated to reduce solvent popping, reduce orange peel, improve gloss, and provide better pigment hiding. Formulators can expect a 3% to 5% increase in actual hiding performance when using DBE. Evaporation rates can be modified by blending with other solvents or diluents if needed. By using a less viscous solvent such as DBE, the viscosity of the coating solution can be reduced without lowering the polymer molecular weight or solids content. This makes DBE an attractive solvent for high solids coatings applications. When blended with other low cost, low toxicity solvents, DBE is compatible with virtually all coil and sheet coatings resin systems. DBE also serves as a coalescing agent in waterborne formulations. Because it is non-flocculating, it provides greater color development in waterbased, tinted industrial, and trade sale paints. DBE has been used successfully in coatings for over fifteen years, and continues to be used in new coatings formulations that comply with changing regulations. Polyester polyols based on DBE are used to make PU elastomers, coatings and both flexible and rigid foams. Environmentally friendly high-boiling, oxygenated solvent. Used to provide a wide range of flexibility in coating formulations. Offers low toxicity, very good solvency, high boiling (low vapor pressure), slow evaporation, high flashpoint, biodegradability and compatibility with alkyd, acrylic, polyester, vinyl copolymer and other resins. Gives high gloss, good flow and levelling characteristics and good pigment hiding. Reduces solvent popping and orange peel. Suits for high solids coating applications. Can be used as a coalescing agent in waterborne formulations. Provides great color development in waterbased, tinted industrial, and trade sale paints. Can be used to produce polyester polyol for polyurethane coatings. <br> Applications: coil, can, industrial, decorative and architectural coatings, and inks.
