The active ingredient in this FPS ADX product is NATROSOL® hydroxyethylcellulose (HEC). Like NATROSOL hydroxyethyl cellulose, FPS ADX 406 is used as a viscosity and rheology modifier, water retention aid, stabiliser and suspending agent, particularly in aqueous paint systems. FPS ADX 406 is a suspension of NATROSOL 250 MBR that dissolves rapidly in water to give clear, smooth solutions which exhibit pseudoplastic flow behaviour. The viscosity of such solutions is little affected by mild acids and alkalies. The performance characteristics of FPS ADX 406 polymer in latex paint parallel those of NATROSOL 250 MBR hydroxyethylcellulose (HEC), but with the following advantages: Liquid form: FPS ADX 406 is a unique, high-solids-content liquid suspension designed for ease of handling in conventional equipment. Because it is a liquid, problems such as dusting or lumping, sometimes associated with powdered polymers, are eliminated. Rapid dissolution: FPS ADX 406 is designed to disperse, and be fully functional in a matter of minutes when exposed to dilution water only, and minimal agitation. No predilution or preactivation is required. Compared with powdered polymers this significantly reduces solution preparation time. Aqueous medium: FPS ADX 406 contains no organic solvents. Therefore, the volatile organic compound (VOC) values of paints are not affected. FPS-products are extremely suited for solvent and smell free latex paints. Viscosity boost: FPS ADX 406 typically improves thickening efficiency by up to 10% compared with an equivalent amount of powdered NATROSOL 250 MBR.
