Scripset 550 Styrene-maleic anhydride copolymer Hercules Vinyl >> Polystyrene & Styrene Copolymers Inks Coatings >> Solventborne Coatings >> Waterborne Printing Inks & Varnishes Soluble in alkaline aqueous system, alcohols, ketones, ethyl acetate and co-solvents Scripset ® Resins (Styrene Maleic Anhydride Copolymers) as a starch modifier in coatings to give increased water resistance, as an alkali removal component in water and organic-based coatings, as an antiblock component and a solvent in coatings, and as a binder component in inks and photoresist coating. Scripset® 550 is a copolymer of styrene and maleic anhydride (>1:1 mole ratio), with approximately a 105,000 weight average molecular weight. The maleic groups have been esterified with a low molecular weight alcohol to impart additional functional properties. It is a fine, off-white, free flowing powder with a faint, aromatic odor. Scripset 550 provides excellent adhesion to copper and glass substrates and wide compatibility parameters make it a leading binder in photosensitive systems. Addition of Scripset 550 to adhesive formulations improves water resistance while also providing a mechanism for label removal in alkaline environments. Excellent stability under proper storage conditions Readily soluble in both alkaline aqueous systems and in certain organic solvents Excellent film former High molecular weight Dried films provide excellent water resistance Typical uses for Scripset 550 are as an adhesive modifier, pigment dispersant, emulsifier, binder, and viscosity modifier. High molecular weight, styrene/maleic anhydride copolymer, esterified with a low molecular weight sec. butyl ester. Used as a starch modifier in coatings to give increased water resistance, as an alkali removal component in water and organic-based coatings, as an antiblock component and a solvent in coatings, and as a binder component in inks and photoresist coating. Provides very good stability, film formation, very good adhesion to copper and glass substrates and wide compatibility parameters.
