Can also be used in solvent-based coatings, plastics, non-food contact adhesives, etc. Tetrachloroisophthalonitrile NUOCIDE® 960 is a broad-spectrum fungicide that can be used in manufacturing and formulating mildew-resistant paints and stains. NUOCIDE® 960 has the following applications: Controls mildew on latex emulsion and solvent-based exterior paints, coatings and stains Inhibits mold growth on interior latex paints and grouts tunicates and bryozoans in marine antifouling coatings NUOCIDE® 960 has several desirable properties in these applications: Hydrolytic stability Very slow rate of leaching due to extremely low water solubility Low vapor pressure Fine particle size allowing higher loading than with liquids Excellent pH stability Stable to UV radiation Compatibility NUOCIDE® 960 is compatible with a wide variety of latexes such as unmodified or alkyd modified acrylic, vinyl acrylic, polyvinyl acetate, epoxy and polyester resins. It is a micromilled powder that is best dispersed during the pigment grinding operation. Grinding equipment normally used in the paint industry is entirely satisfactory. If an in-can preservative is used in combination with NUOCIDE® 960, the compatibility of the in-can preservative with NUOCIDE® 960 should be evaluated. The use of NUOSEPT® 95 Preservative as the in-can preservative is recommended (refer to International Specialty Products' NUOSEPT® 95 Preservative Product Data Bulletin). Studies have shown that certain in-can preservatives can react with dispersed NUOCIDE® 960 to produce adverse effects such as yellowing. Contact the ISP technical staff for additional information. NUOCIDE® 960 has proved effective as the sole antifouling agent in marine coatings based on chloinated rubber, polychloroprene, acrylic/rosin, alkyd/rosin and vinyl/rosin. When used with cuprous oxide, NUOCIDE® 960 has evidenced a synergism that results in slime control on ship hulls. The low water solubility of NUOCIDE® 960 makes it especially useful as an anti-slime adjuvant for use with copolymer ablative coatings. NUOCIDE® 960 is added to the marine coating during the pigment grinding operation. Dosage levels are dependent on the length of time antifouling protection is desired, the temperature of the water in which the ship will operate and the ingredients in the marine coating. Dosage levels of 5% to 15% NUOCIDE® 960 in the formulated coating (wt/wt wet basis) are suggested. It is the responsibility of marine coating manufactures to determine the necessary information needed to register their coating formulation. Tetrachloroisophthalonitrile. Used as a broad spectrum fungicide in manufacturing and formulating mildew-resistant paints and stains. Controls mildew on latex emulsion and solvent-based exterior paints, coatings and stains. Inhibits mold growth on interior latex paints and grouts. Can be used as the sole antifouling agent in marine coatings based on chlorinated rubber, polychloroprene, acrylic/rosin, alkyd/rosin and vinyl/rosin. Provides hydrolytic stability, very slow rate of leaching due to extremely low water solubility, low vapor pressure, high loading, very good pH stability and stability to UV radiation. Can be used in combination with in-can preservative.
