The performance of a coating depends upon the properties of its components including the pigments, binder, and additives. Pigments are selected for their appearance and protective properties. The use of infrared (IR) reflective pigments in coatings reduces the temperature of the coating and substrate by lowering the energy absorption from the sunlight.
