At NBAA 2009 AkzoNobel Aerospace Coatings is launching a new base coat/clear
coat paint system for the general aviation sector. The Alumigrip® 4400/4450 is an
environmentally compliant coating system that reduces the time required to paint an
aircraft by up to 40% and improves color and gloss retention.
Alumigrip® 4400/4450 is based on the latest high solids polyurethane technology
and was developed to specifically meet the needs of corporate and general aviation
customers where a high quality, long lasting, distinctive finish, is a top priority.
The new Alumigrip® 4400/4450 base coat / clear coat system can be supplied in a
very wide choice of colors, including solid colors and high-impact metallic finishes.
It is also compatible with the Alumigrip® range of environmentally compliant primers,
surfacers and topcoats:
Alumigrip® 4001 chromate free, corrosion inhibiting primer surfacer;
Alumigrip® 4101 chromate free, corrosion inhibiting primer;
Alumigrip® 4200 high solids buffable polyurethane topcoat;
Alumigrip® 10P8-11 corrosion inhibiting primer; and
Alumigrip® 10P30-8 high solids epoxy sanding surfacer.
The Alumigrip® 4400 base dries to tape in just two hours at normal application
conditions, significantly reducing the time required to apply multiple colors. New
resin technology in the Alumigrip® 4450 clear coat offers owners and operators
improved durability for a longer coating life.
Additional benefits of the two coat Alumigrip® 4400/4450 system are its superior
'hiding' qualities, excellent wet-edge performance, and a smooth, buffable finish
that stands up extremely well to the effects of rain erosion and commercial
hydraulic fluids (Hyjet IV ®, Skydrol ® 500B and Skydrol ® LD-4).
