Diatec enhances its Swiss industrial activities, increasing production capacity of media for Digital Imaging, and debuts in light-sensitive films for the electronic industry.
In April Diatec Group signed the acquisition of Swiss based Star Coating AG, which focuses on production of media for Digital Imaging and light sensitive films for electronic industry.
The new acquisition is situated in Niederhasli, North-West of Zurich and one hundred kilometers away from Bern, where Diatec already owns a modern plant (Sihl AG) specializing in Graphic Art and excellence center for vinyl, polymeric films and canvas.
The geographic closeness and production similaries between Sihl AG and Star Coating, open important and progressive industrial integration, creating a very competitive and high technological manufacturing pole. Important synergies are also expected with Sihl GmbH, Germany, main Diatec industrial plant and R&D site, and with Arkwright in the United States.
It's important to underline that a significant portion of the Star Coating market derives from productions and sales of light sensitive films for electronics, mainly printed circuit boards (PCB). This specific field is not strictly connected to the Diatec core business, Digital Imaging, but supports the group's mission of coating of flexible materials ("the coating company"), targeting a wide range of potential markets.
Star Coating will not only contribute a further 12 million CHF to Diatec sales, half of which is from the Chinese market, but also expands the employee figures by 30.
About Sihl The Coating Company
The name Sihl is synonymous with the production of coated and refined papers and films. At its German location in Düren (between Cologne and Aachen), a 300-strong workforce develops and produces wide-format media (photo, film, specialities), media for office and digital imaging applications (inkjet photo paper, inkjet, copy/laser) as well as semi-finished products and information carriers. With 10 state-of-the-art coating machines, the factory in Düren is one of the biggest and most modern coating plants in Germany.
Another important production site is Sihl's factory in Bern with 100 employees. Three modern coating units produce inkjet specialities such as Vinyl & Banner, Canvas, Backlit or Artist. Over 7000 jumbo reels are processed every year. The plants also accommodate application centers for optimum digital image processing and their own research and development departments. Media produced in the plants is sold in Germany by the company's distribution organisation, Sihl Direct. Sihl is a member of the Italian Diatec Group which specialises in the divisions "paper for technical drawings" and "paper for textile processing".
