ABINGDON, U.K., NEW YORK, U.S.A. -- P2i, the world leader in liquid repellent nano-coating technology, is demonstrating its unrivalled protection of electronic devices from Summer splashes caused at the beach and by the pool, whilst at CEA LineShows, New York, 26-28 June 2012. Visitors can see the award winning Aridion™ coating on display at location T62.
Eric Cohill, Chief Commercial Officer of P2i, comments: "Our research has shown that there is a real need for protection against splashes and spills, especially over the Summer period, as more and more people use their cell phones at the pool-side or at the beach. In fact, our most recent research* showed that 47% of Americans risk their beloved cell phones by taking them to the beach. And, it's at the beach or by the pool, these electronic devices come into contact with water through accidental splashes, spills and the inevitable dripping hair and clothes as people come out of the water searching for a towel to dry off."
The Aridion™ nano-coating, which is one thousand times thinner than a human hair, does not affect the look, feel or functionality of electronic devices such as smartphones and e-readers, but instead changes the way that liquids interact with their surfaces - even on the inside. By applying the Aridion™ nano-coating, the P2i technology lowers the surface energy of the device which reduces the disruption of intermolecular bonds within the water. Now, instead of being attracted and spreading out on the external surface, or working its way into the internal circuit boards, the water remains in droplet formation.
Cohill explains: "There is mounting pressure on manufacturers to provide some kind of water protection for electronic devices - particularly as the data and information stored on them becomes even more valuable. For businesses and consumers, a damaged phone is no longer just an inconvenience. Networks are also driving demand for manufacturers, as a damaged phone not only means a reduction in billing hours, but may prompt customers to look for another supplier, creating network churn."
P2i is the only proven viable liquid repellent nano-coating solution available commercially in the Electronics sector through major brands and manufacturers.
*The research for P2i was carried out between: 10 / 02 / 2012 and 17 / 02 / 2012, from a sample of 2006 mobile phone owners across the UK, France, Germany, Spain and the US.
