AkzoNobel Introduces Sikkens Autocoat BT LV 853 Clear that Reduces Drying Time by 60%

AkzoNobel Automotive & Aerospace Coating (A&AC) has announced the introduction of Sikkens Autocoat BT LV 853 Clear, the newest addition to its commercial vehicles coatings line, and with it, it has established a new standard. This two-pack polyurethane clearcoat dries faster and is easier to polish than current commercial vehicle clearcoats.

For refinishing, refurbishing, or as an OEM finish on commercial vehicles and trailers, A&AC's new clearcoat provides an ideal solution. It is suitable for two-coat metallic systems or as final coat on Autocoat BT LV topcoats.

Autocoat BT LV 853 Clear represents a solid advance in terms of performance and convenience. Perhaps the biggest advance of all is up to 60 % reduction in drying time, which translates as well to major savings on energy. Application with Autocoat BT LV 853 Clear is simple and straightforward; no extensive training is required to make the switch from previous products. And with even better performance, there will be fewer re-works.

Because Autocoat BT LV 853 Clear replaces four existing Autocoat BT clearcoats, customers also achieve a very significant simplification in the number of products they need to stock.

"We're seeing a number of changes in the CV market, and with Autocoat BT LV 853 Clear, we're delivering solutions to the emerging trends," says René Hauser, Segment Marketing Manager Commercial Vehicles. "Our customers are looking for a better warranty, and a simplified assortment, and LV 853 Clear responds to those needs. What we saw was that there was a real gap at the high end of the CV market, but now, with the high performance we've designed into LV 853 Clear, we filled that gap."

Colin Peach of Truck Engineering trialled Autocoat BT LV 853 on a tractor unit and he was very impressed with the results. "It lays down much flatter and it looks like glass," he says. "I also find that it flows out better than my current clearcoat."

And Eric Donck, of Dutch repair shop Van Winkoop painted 5 trucks and said every single one of them looked fantastic, and that LV 853 was easy to use with good drying characteristics.

René Hauser says that feedback during the initial testing and launch of Autocoat BT LV 853 Clear has been very positive. "Customers see the added value we are bringing to them and are extremely enthusiastic," he concludes.
