CLEVELAND -- The Lubrizol Corporation announces the launch of Carboset® SA-850, an advanced acrylic copolymer emulsion for masonry surfaces. This new proprietary emulsion is formulated to address durability, maintenance, and aesthetic concerns on old and new concrete, block, stone, brick, and a variety of other masonry substrates.
According to Peter Bloyce, Global Business Manager, Lubrizol Performance Coatings, common issues related to masonry substrates are premature cracking caused by water penetration and the freeze-thaw cycle, efflorescence, and dirt pick-up. When masonry is compromised aesthetically or structurally, it can lead to increased maintenance costs and degraded appearance, and can reduce a building's value. Coatings containing CarbosetSA-850 polymer can help protect masonry against all these negative attributes.
"There are coatings that can solve some of the problems masonry encounters, but not like Carboset SA-850," said Bloyce. "For instance, an elastomeric coating might provide the elongation needed to bridge small cracks but probably by sacrificing its dirt-resistance properties. Carboset SA-850 tackles all these issues. Coatings based on this polymer provide a barrier that makes the masonry more resistant to weathering and easier to maintain; thereby, prolonging the life and reducing the maintenance costs of the structure as well as keeping it beautiful. We believe our customers will find this new emulsion to be an effective solution for many of the industry challenges they've had to face."
Tom Zagore, Global Marketing Manager, Lubrizol Performance Coatings, further points out that Carboset SA-850 offers an excellent balance of elongation, early water resistance, and dirt-resistance properties to retain a long-lasting, clean appearance. The new emulsion is also a timesaver: it can be painted over fresh concrete without priming or having to wait the traditional 28-day curing period, significantly reducing job completion time.
Carboset SA-850 displays excellent elongation to bridge small cracks in masonry surfaces. It can be formulated into a finished coating with up to 600 percent elongation while maintaining a significant level of dirt pick-up resistance.
In addition, Carboset SA-850 is a low VOC product that is formaldehyde-free and alkylphenol ethoxylate free (APEO-free).
Carboset is a registered trademark of The Lubrizol Corporation.
