HOUSTON -- ExxonMobil Chemical announces the start-up
of a new flexible film coating line in its Virton, Belgium, facility.
The company's new coating facility will provide consistent coating quality,
short-run capability for niche products and multi-substrate material functionality.
The new line's multi-material functionality will enable it to process
ExxonMobil oriented polypropylene (OPP) films, as well as other flexible
substrates, such as polyester, oriented polyamide and oriented high density
polyethylene film.
The installation of the coater supports ExxonMobil's product development
in the label industry, where various printing technologies (UV, flexo,
offset) require outstanding surface properties that the new coater can
provide. It is also ideally suited to improve the company's capabilities
to coat traditional flexible packaging and is designed to apply environmentally
friendly water-based coatings.
"The new coater will give us more flexibility and versatility as
well as produce improved quality coated substrates -- beyond OPP -- including
polyester, oriented polyamide and polyethylene," says Carlo Ranucci,
general manager of ExxonMobil's Films Business in Europe, Middle East
and Asia.
"We will be able to run variable-width coating and higher quality
coated substrates at a wide variety of gauges. I feel sure that the benefits
of the new line will be greatly appreciated by our customers who, for
example, are looking for improved coating quality that will allow them
to satisfy demanding, high quality graphic arts applications. This is
another step towards our goal of providing one-stop-shopping for customers
seeking the full spectrum of labelling and packaging solutions."
The Films Business of ExxonMobil Chemical is a leading global supplier
of a full range of OPP film for flexible packaging and labeling applications.
