Axalta Coating Systems, one of the leading global suppliers of liquid and powder coatings, has been awarded a project to coat the recently refurbished trains of the Beijing subway. The project commenced in November 2013 and will encompass one of the most popular Beijing Subway lines, consisting of more than 300 rail cars. The refurbished trains, nicknamed 'Blue Cat' for the distinctive blue color coating of Axalta's paint product.

INX International Ink Co. officials recently broke ground on a new 62,000 square-foot facility in Lebanon, Ohio. Local dignitaries were joined by the INX management team - led by President and CEO Rick Clendenning - at the site about 30 miles northeast of Cincinnati. When completed in late 2014, the building will serve as a manufacturing center primarily for solvent ink packaging products and will also produce three-piece metal decorating, UV/EB and some water-based flexographic ink products.
Arkema announces a plan to divest its two South African subsidiaries, Arkema Resins Proprietary Limited and Harveys Composites Proprietary Limited to South African company, Ferro Industrial Products Proprietary Limited, specializes in the production and distribution of coatings and materials for composite markets. Through this divestment, Arkema will dispose of non-strategic activities - such as resins for composite materials - which represent few synergies with the remainder of its coating activities.

The Dow Chemical Company has been named a winner of the 2013 U.S. Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award for its development of EVOQUETM Pre-Composite Polymer Technology. This Dow innovation helps coatings formulators improve paint performance properties while using less titanium dioxide (TiO2), a white pigment that is energy intensive to manufacture but ubiquitous in architectural paint for its ability to provide quality hiding. This win marks the ninth time that Dow and its affiliates have won the Presidential Green Chemistry Award, more than double any other company in Award history.
