  • Flint Group Raises Costs for Label & Packaging Inks in Europe to Counter Raw Material Costs (Nov 2, 2011)
    Significant rise in raw material costs this year, an growing global demand for critical raw materials as well as a lack of replacement capacity is forcing up the costs of ink. The continually challenging raw material market requires Flint Group to raise prices for solvent-based, water-based and UV inks for labels and packaging in Europe effective 1 January 2012.

  • Oxea to Establish its First Chemical Plant in China for Producing Oxo Derivatives (Nov 2, 2011)
    The chemical company Oxea has announced that it will build its first chemical plant for the production of oxo derivatives in Nanjing, China, in 2012. Scheduled to go on-stream in 2013, the new state-of-the-art plant will serve the fast-growing demand for oxo derivatives in China and Asia.
  • Sun Chemical to Hike Costs of its Packaging Inks Owing to Raw Material Expenses (Nov 2, 2011)
    Due to continued hikes in the costs of raw materials and volatility in the supply chain, Sun Chemical will raise prices globally on all packaging inks for all printing methods and chemistries on December 1. The hikes will vary as different products that Sun Chemical offers have a different chemical composition, but the average rise will be approximately 6% for most products.

  • DuPont Reports 23% Growth in Earnings for Q3, 2011 (Nov 1, 2011)
    Third quarter 2011 consolidated net sales of $9.2 billion were 32 percent higher than the prior year reflecting 15 percent higher local prices, 4 percent favorable currency effect, 1 percent higher volume and a 12 percent net increase from portfolio changes. Third quarter 2011 net income attributable to DuPont was $452 million versus $367 million in the third quarter 2010.

    The Sherwin-Williams Company announced its financial results for the third quarter and nine months ended September 30, 2011. Compared to the same periods in 2010, consolidated net sales increased $312.7 M, or 14.4%, to $2.48 B in the quarter and increased $814.5 M, or 13.8%, to $6.70 B in nine months.

  • Bayer Divests Part of its Coatings Resins Business by Selling Viverso to Nuplex Industries (Oct 31, 2011)
    Bayer MaterialScience AG has signed a contract for the sale of its Viverso GmbH subsidiary to Nuplex Industries Ltd., for EUR 75 million. The company is a leading manufacturer of polymer resins based in New Zealand and Australia. Bayer MaterialScience will thus divest a certain part of its conventional coating resins business, which does not fit the company's current growth strategy.
  • DSM Claims its VitroStealth® Coating to be Fit for Use in Biosensors for Glucose Monitoring (Oct 31, 2011)
    DSM announced that test results indicate its VitroStealth® coating can be used in the design of biosensors, such as those for continuous glucose monitoring. VitroStealth® coating is a durable and non-fouling coating designed to prevent unwanted protein absorption and cellular adhesion on synthetic surfaces.
