Adhesion aspects of different substrates: wood, plastic, metal and stone-like materials.
Methods of pre-treatment of substrates.
Mechanisms of adhesive failure.

PART 2 - October 11, 2012

Discussion of Case Studies given in Part 1.
Examples: epoxy systems and polyurethane systems.
Issues with intercoat adhesion: the adhesion between two coating layers.
Importance of mechanical properties of coatings with respect to adhesion.
Influence of additives on adhesion.
Main causes for adhesive failure: additives, stress, substitution, hydrophobicity, dirt, smoothness, weak boundary layers and osmosis.
Tests for measuring adhesion of films.
Phenomena closely related to adhesion: easy-to-clean coatings, anti-graffiti and reinforcement of coatings.

At the end of the training there will be a Q&A Session where you can pose questions to Jochum Beetsma.
