METabolic EXplorer, leading biotechnology company, re-inventes chemistry by providing tailor made bio processes for the sustainable production of chemicals.
These economically and environmentally bioprocesses allow to produce large volumes of commodity chemicals, used in coating applications, from renewable resources.
Turnkey bio processes
METEX delivers turnkey technologies and processes using renewable feedstock (such as sugar, hemicellulose and glycerine).
These processes are based on fermentation, separation and purification of compounds and allow for the production of bulk chemicals from renewable resources, by using living cells as cell factories.
METEX's Mission: provide bio processes
By using sustainable, renewable feedstock, METEX's bio-processes present different key advantages:
lower costs
less environmental impact
easier and more cost effective access to raw materials thus providing an answer to the limited amount of extractable fossil resources
large volume products
Bio-sourced solutions for coating applications
METabolic EXplorer is currently focused on the chemical industry and develops efforts on 3 products in coating applications.
1,3 Propanediol (PDO)
METEX has recently moved into a pre-industrial pilot phase to produce a new source of bio PDO.
This non-petroleum specialty glycol is obtained thanks to a fermentation of industrial raw glycerol.
1,3 PropaneDiOl (PDO)
Benefits and Attributes:
- the best cost competitive alternative to other sources of PDO production
- high purity standard (superior to 99.5%)
- made from a renewable source, the glycerin
This new source of bio PDO can be used in the coating's industry as soft segment building blocks or reactive diluent to increase film properties and also reduce VOC.
1,2 Propanediol (MPG or MonoPropylene Glycol))
MPG is a bulk chemical used in cooling applications. It is also a major component of unsaturated polyesters resins used in basic goods such as furniture and bathware.
Butanol
METabolic EXplorer’s technology provides the ability to make Butanol made directly from starch, hemicellulose or sugar. Butanol is often used in coatings and adhesives.
