Railways & Aerospace
Transportation coatings are applied on jet aircrafts, railway vehicles...all kinds
of equipment which are usually too big to be baked. Therefore, these coatings are
mostly air or possibly forced-dried (excepted OEM paints for truck cabins).
Aerospace coatings shall be very flexible, highly durable in extreme conditions
and must show excellent chemical resistance in order to resist Skydrol.
For many years, two-component (2K) polyurethane topcoats based on polyester
polyols (with high -OH% content) and crosslinked with aliphatic polyisocyanates
have proven to be the ideal systems to fulfill these tough requirements.
Truck, buses and railway coatings have to show nice appearance, very good anticorrosion
properties, high durability, chemical and stone-chip resistance. They also have to comply
with new environmental protection regulations, thus 2K waterborne polyurethane coatings
are becoming very popular.
