Biocides for Interior Coatings

Concern about the potential health issues associated with mold growth on interior surfaces has created a need for a safe and effective full-spectrum biocide. Contaminations are often dependent on a high level of humidity of a room (bathrooms, kitchens...). An efficient biocide for indoor coatings must be particularly effective against molds and have a low solubility in water.

An important aspect that must be considered before selecting the ideal biocide for interior coatings is its safety. Interior use is much more sensitive for the public i.e. children, pregnant women etc. and therefore highly important to be “safe”. The risk-assessment of the biocide is essential. Another necessary aspect to clarify before choosing a biocide is whether the use of individual active components or formulations is permitted by law in the country concerned or whether restrictions for certain applications exist.
