Properties
It is a fine blueish grey powder that reacts with alkalis to produce zincates and
with oils to make zinc soaps. Corrosion resistance is generated via a sacrificial
chemical reaction of the pigment rather than the steel substrate. Zinc dust also
protects film formers in exterior coatings by absorbing UV radiation.
