Structure
Red iron oxides can be in a natural form (mineral "haematite") or can
be synthesized from the yellow "raw sienna" by calcining and driving off
the water of hydration. These pigments can have crystals with different shapes,
influenced by the degree of calcination.

Color
The color depends on the particle size and shape. The bigger the particles, the
brighter the color. Red iron oxides can also be over-dispersed to darken the color.
Uses
These pigments have a low price and are very economic in use.
