Radiation Cured Coatings(UV/EB)
As you may have heard of, radiation curing is an actual growing technology. Coatings which are radiation-curable (radcure) are in fact either cured by ultraviolet (UV), visible, or electron beam (EB) radiation. Although EB’s share is increasing fast, UV curing is still predominant and accounts for 90% of the radcure processes.
Most of the time, formulations consist of oligomers, monomers, a photoinitiator and additives. The initial liquid coating is easily converted into solid by exposure to UV light.
Photoinitiators present in the coating material get broken into radical or ionic pieces by exposure to UV light. The photoinitiators then absorb the UV light and cause the coatings to cure by chemical reaction.
| Benefits of UV/EB processes: |
increased speed and cycle time |
improved coating properties |
cost reduction (reduced work in process, lower maintenance costs, decreased overall quality costs, cleaner process including zero VOCs and no HAPs reducing environmental reporting requirements & lower emissions handling costs) |
environmental compliance |

| Installing radcure technology will improve your return on investment and make you benefit from its environmental benefits! |
| Main applications for radcure technology are: |
| |
The coatings category includes Wood (flooring, cabinetry, post-assembled furniture),
Plastic, Flexilble packaging, Interior aerospace and defense |
| |
Increased productivity, enhanced product performance, greater cost efficiencies and environmental compliance, this unique combination of benefits will definitively make radiation-cured coatings more and more important in the paints, coatings a inks industry.
