Renewable Isobutanol for Solvents and Coatings
Renewable Isobutanol from Gevo:
- Meets industry standard specifications for all current isobutanol applications
- Provides cost savings
- Improves sustainability profile of existing solvent and coatings products
- Can stabilize pricing as the cost is not tied to crude oil and natural gas price
fluctuations
- May replace n-butanol and other solvents
Gevo has produced solvent-grade, renewable Isobutanol using a proprietary
fermentation technology at demonstration scale and will begin commercial production
in 2012. This approach results in a fully renewable and cost-competitive
isobutanol product that is chemically identical to petroleum derived isobutanol,
making it a sustainable "drop-in" replacement for all current isobutanol
and derived applications.
Gevo isobutanol is produced from agricultural products via an efficient process
which both reduces greenhouse gas emissions and production costs relative
to conventional isobutanol production processes and ties the costs to renewable
feedstocks with lower historical price volatility than oil or natural gas
or propylene. These cost and environmental benefits can drive replacement of n-butanol
and other solvents with Gevo isobutanol.
